Yale University Appoints Maurie McInnis as 24th President

McInnis, Currently President of Stony Brook University, Will Start in July

McInnis Brings Strong Ties to New Haven and a Wealth of Experience in Higher Education and Cultural History

Yale University has appointed Maurie D. McInnis, currently the president of Stony Brook University, as its 24th president. McInnis, a longtime higher education leader and cultural historian, was named to the post on Wednesday and will start her new job in July.

McInnis has strong ties to New Haven, Connecticut, where Yale is located. She has served as a Yale trustee since 2022 and earned her Ph.D. in American studies from the university in 1996.

McInnis's appointment comes at a time when Yale is facing a number of challenges, including declining enrollment and financial pressures. She is expected to bring her experience in managing complex institutions and her commitment to diversity and inclusion to the role.

In a statement, Yale Corporation Senior Fellow and Presidential Search Committee Chair William Donaldson said, "Maurie McInnis is a visionary leader with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing higher education today. Her commitment to academic excellence, diversity and inclusion, and the power of collaboration make her the ideal person to lead Yale into the future."
